The private banking arm of UK-based Barclays has named Nikhil Jha as its new head of non-resident Indian (NRI) based in Singapore, according to sources.
The move will mark a reunion of sorts as Jha had been working at Barclays for two years in until 2016 when OCBC acquired the British private bank’s assets in Singapore and Hong Kong, absorbing the business into its own private wealth unit, Bank of Singapore (BOS). He would then work at BOS for nine years as a managing director and team head for the global South Asia market until his recent exit.
When contacted, a spokesperson for Barclays declined to comment on the appointment.
Asia re-entry
After exiting a decade ago, Barclays made a re-entry into Asia with the formation of a Singapore office in 2021 and announced plans to launch a booking centre in the city-state this year.
“Asia Pacific is one of the fastest growing wealth markets, and this strategic investment in Singapore underscores our commitment to expand in the region. Establishing the new booking centre further strengthens our global proposition, allowing us to better serve our clients,” said Sasha Wiggins, CEO, Barclays Private Bank and Wealth Management, in a previous statement.
