Shortly after launching its Singapore booking centre, Barclays Private Bank has named a former Morgan Stanley executive as its head for the city-state and Asia.
Barclays has appointed Wee Yee-Yeong as head of private bank Singapore and head of private bank Asia, according to an announcement. Based in Singapore, he will join the British private bank later this year and lead its business in Singapore while working with the wider distribution teams serving international Asian clients.
He will succeed Alexander Harrison in his capacity as the Singapore interim head of private banking.
The India private banking unit will remain under the leadership of Adrish Ghosh, who will continue to report to Annabelle Bryde, head of private bank international.
Wee has more than 20 years of industry experience across Asia Pacific, most recently as chief executive and head of sales for Morgan Stanley’s Singapore wealth management business. Prior to that, he held senior leadership and client coverage roles at Bank of Singapore, Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs, UBS Wealth Management, and Merrill Lynch.
Booking centre launch
The appointment follows the launch of Barclays Private Bank’s Singapore booking centre earlier this month, which marked a full reentry into the city-state after exiting a decade ago.
“Asia Pacific is a strategically important region for Barclays, and Singapore is central to our long-term growth ambitions. The recent launch of our Singapore booking centre marked a significant milestone in our growth strategy, and Yee-Yeong’s appointment represents another important step in that journey,” said Barclays’ APAC CEO Jaideep Khanna.
“His leadership will help us deepen relationships with entrepreneurs, family offices and international clients, while connecting them to the breadth of Barclays’ banking, markets and financing capabilities.”
