HSBC has named Desmond Kuang as Chief Investment Officer for Asia, Private Bank and Premier Wealth, effective 6 July 2026, as the lender strengthens its investment leadership across the region.
Based in Singapore, Kuang will lead the development of regional investment strategies and asset allocation themes for private banking and premier clients, excluding Hong Kong. He will also serve on the bank’s Global Investment Committee.
Kuang brings nearly 20 years of experience across asset management, credit research and multi-asset investing. He currently serves as Chief Investment Officer for China and interim head of Wealth and Premier Solutions, China, roles he will retain until successors are appointed.
Prior to rejoining HSBC in 2022, Kuang held senior roles at Income Partners Asset Management and Goldman Sachs, focusing on Asian credit and macro strategies.
Willem Sels, Global Chief Investment Officer, said the appointment reflects rising demand for timely and actionable investment insights as wealth expands across Asia.
Kuang will report to Sels and to Ishan Sarkar, Head of Wealth and Premier Solutions, Singapore.
