A tech expert has been moved from HSBC’s institutional banking arm to the wealth management business with a focus on enhancing artificial intelligence capabilities.
HSBC has appointed Nick Elias as head of wealth platforms, wealth and premier solutions (WPS), according to a statement, effective August 15. Based in London, he reports to head of WPS Lavanya Chari.
WPS is a division within HSBC that develops and manages products, platforms, and client experience for the bank’s wealth clients across segments, from affluent to ultra-high net worth individuals.
In the role, Elias will enable HSBC to further embed artificial intelligence (AI) into platforms and services. He will also lead the Wealth Transformation Programme, which includes the scaling of the bank’s propriety ecosystem, Wealth Intelligence, for client-facing staff. The AI-powered tool, which was launched in September 2025, has a range of capabilities, such as analysis and summarization of research reports, and personalization of investment advice.
Elias joined HSBC in 2012 and is currently global head of customer relationship management within the chief operating office function for corporate and institutional banking (CIB). In this position, he led the digital vision for CIB’s global frontline ecosystem and the delivery of AI-enabled platforms across the client life cycle.
“Nick’s appointment is a key milestone for our wealth business. It strengthens the digital platforms that power our proposition and accelerates our AI capability, so we can bring deeper insight, more personalisation, and a better end-to-end experience as clients pursue their wealth goals,” Chari said.
