Demonstrating talent mobility within the full wealth continuum, HSBC has shifted an executive from affluent banking to private banking in Taiwan.

London-based HSBC has appointed Edward Chiu as onshore Taiwan market head, HSBC Private Bank, according to an announcement, effective June 1. In the role, he will report to Kanas Chan, head of private bank, North Asia and Hong Kong, as well as Kevin Hu, head of international wealth and premier banking (IWPB), Taiwan.

Chiu has 20 years of wealth management and affluent banking experience across Taiwan, most recently as head of Premier Elite at HSBC Taiwan since 2024. Previously, he held senior leadership roles at DBS and Citibank.

Premier Elite is the segment in between HSBC’s mass affluent and private banking businesses. According to HSBC’s website, Premier Elite clients in Taiwan need a minimum monthly average account balance of TWD15 million (USD500,000) to qualify compared to the USD2 million for the private bank.

“Taiwan is a strategically important growth market for our North Asia business. Edward’s appointment strengthens our leadership team in Taiwan and reinforces our commitment to expanding our onshore presence and elevating the client experience,” said Chan, commenting on the new appointment.
