The former HSBC Private Bank and Premier Wealth CIO for Southeast Asia and India will join UBS’s Asia-Pacific Chief Investment Office, expanding its senior investment leadership across key regional markets.
UBS Global Wealth Management has appointed James Cheo to its Chief Investment Office team in Asia-Pacific, in a senior role covering Southeast Asia, Australia and India.
Cheo joins UBS from HSBC Private Bank and Premier Wealth, where he served as Chief Investment Officer for Southeast Asia and India. His move is effective from 30 March 2026, according to the industry sources.
A seasoned investment professional, Cheo brings more than two decades of experience across private banking, investment strategy and macroeconomic research. Over the course of his career, he has held senior roles at HSBC, Bank of Singapore and Barclays, as well as positions within the hedge fund industry and the Monetary Authority of Singapore. His responsibilities have included serving as chief investment officer, head of investment strategy and senior economist.
At UBS, Cheo will join the bank’s Asia-Pacific CIO platform, which is responsible for house views, asset allocation guidance and investment research for wealth management clients across the region.
