Nomura International Wealth Management (IWM) has named Rahul Bhandari as head of its global South Asia and Southeast Asia business, with the appointment placing him in Hong Kong. Bhandari brings extensive regional experience, having spent more than five years at Julius Baer and almost twenty years with India’s HDFC Bank, where he held senior roles including alternate chief executive and head of commercial, consumer banking and NRI services. His career also includes over nine years based in Hong Kong.
His arrival comes at a time when the number of non-resident Indian (NRI) bankers in Hong Kong is dwindling, as many relationship managers have shifted to Singapore and Dubai to tap into the rapid growth of wealth in those hubs.
Nomura IWM has been bolstering its capabilities in the city, recently hiring a senior banker from HSBC Global Private Banking as part of a wider strategy to deepen its presence in Hong Kong and across the region, and to further expand its assets under management.
